Who we are

3P Learning and its group of companies makes Mathletics, Reading Eggs, Reading Eggspress, Mathseeds, Writing Legends, LiteracyPlanet and Brightpath Progress. When you use any of those products, we look after some information about you. Depending on which product you use, the 3P Learning company and its group of companies own your information. The full list of the group of companies lives in our adult Privacy Policy.

In privacy law, the company that decides what to do with your information is called the ‘controller’. For our home accounts that’s 3P Learning and its group of companies. For school accounts, it’s actually your school — we just process the data on their instructions.

What we know about you

We collect three kinds of information.

Three types of information we collect: Account information (your first name, last name, username, and a trusted adult's email), Activity and learning data (quiz answers, scores, time on activities, topics practised), and Technical data (device type, browser, and general country).

If your school uses Reading Eggs, we may also record your voice for a read aloud activity. We do NOT collect your home address, phone number, your photo, or your location. We don’t ask for the names of your friends, your emails to other people, or anything else like that.

Why we collect it

For Home accounts, privacy law says we must have a proper reason for using any of your information. That reason is called a lawful basis. We use four:

Our four lawful bases: Contract (running your account, saving progress), Legal obligation (financial records, safeguarding logs), Legitimate interests (security, fraud prevention, product improvement), and Consent (marketing emails to a parent or teacher).
  • Contract: When your trusted adult signs you up, our agreement is a contract and it lets us run the service for you.
  • Legitimate interest: We can use limited data to keep the service safe and reliable, e.g. blocking attackers and fixing bugs.
  • Legal obligation: We may have to keep some data (like billing information) to follow laws.
  • Consent: For optional things like marketing emails to your trusted adult, we ask first and they can change their minds at any time.

In practice that means we use your information to save your progress, give you the right level of activity, let a trusted adult see how you’re going, keep our games working, and send marketing only to a trusted adult who has actively opted in.

TALK TO A TRUSTED ADULT

Words like “contract” and “legitimate interest” are real legal terms. If you want to know more, ask a trusted adult to read this part with you, or ask them to read and explain our adult Privacy Policy.

For School accounts it is the school who determine lawful basis and they can assist you further.

Where your data goes

3P Learning is a global company, so your information might be stored or accessed in any of the countries we operate in:

World map showing the countries where 3P Learning operates and where your data may be stored or accessed.

Wherever your data goes, we use legal protections (called Standard Contractual Clauses or the UK International Data Transfer Agreement) so it stays as safe as it is at home.

We also use a small number of trusted third-party companies (“subprocessors”) to do specific jobs like hosting and email delivery. They can only use your data to do that job for us — they can’t use it for anything else. The full list is in our adult Privacy Policy.

How we keep it safe

Security is layered. Each layer makes it harder for anyone unauthorised to get to your information.

Security layers: Encryption in transit and at rest, access controls, monitoring, regular penetration testing, and code review.

In plain English:

  • Everything is scrambled in transit (TLS 1.2+) and also when it sits in storage (AES-256). Without the key, it looks like gibberish.
  • Only people who really need to see the data can access it, and only after they’ve signed in with two factors.
  • We keep security logs and our team reviews them.
  • We pay independent experts to try to break in (“penetration testing”) at least once a year.
  • Every change to our code is reviewed and tested before it goes near your data.

We will NEVER…

Five things we will never do: sell your personal information, use your data for targeted ads, share your info with direct marketers, use your learning data to harm your school results, or build a profile to sell to data brokers.

That’s a real promise. Other apps may do these things; we don’t, and we won’t. If we ever wanted to make a big change to how we use your data, we’d have to ask first.

How long we keep it

We delete your information when we no longer need it or make it anonymous (so it can’t be linked back to you).

Account profileWhile you have an account, plus an 18 month period after you leave for school accounts or a 48 month period for home accounts.
Activity & scoresAligned to your school year so progress reports keep working
Voice recordings24 months — then permanently deleted
Security & log data12 months, then deleted
BackupsUsed only for disaster recovery, then overwritten on rotation at 18 months

Your rights

Privacy law gives you eight rights over your personal information.

Your eight privacy rights: Right to know, Right of access, Right to rectification, Right to erasure, Right to restrict processing, Right to data portability, Right to object, and Rights related to automated decision-making.

To use any of these rights, ask the adult who looks after your account to email us or you could email us yourself. We try to respond within a week, and always within a month. We won’t charge you, and we won’t make it harder than it needs to be.

TALK TO A TRUSTED ADULT

If a trusted adult says no to sharing some of your data, that’s usually the end of it. But you can still ask the adult who looks after your account to talk to us, or you can talk to your country’s privacy regulator yourself.

Are decisions made by a computer?

Our products do change the difficulty of your activities based on how you’re going — that’s the whole point — but no algorithm decides anything that has a serious effect on you (like grading you for school or ending your account).

We do not use your personal information to train AI models. If that ever changes, we will tell a trusted adult, and we’ll need their explicit OK first.

Cookies and similar tech

Cookies are small files our website and apps store on your device so they can remember things, like keeping you logged in. We use cookies for three reasons:

  • To make the site work (you can’t turn these off).
  • To see how the site is being used so we can improve it (anonymous data only).
  • To send marketing to a trusted adult who has opted in (never to children).

We do not use cookies or third-party trackers to send targeted advertising to children. Full details are in our standalone Cookie Policy.

How to get help

How to get help: contact us at privacy@3plearning.com, or reach out to your country's privacy regulator.

First step: ask the adult who looks after your account to email us at privacy@3plearning.com. We aim to reply within 7 days; complex requests can take longer, and we’ll keep you updated.

Still not happy? You (or your parent or school) can take the matter to a privacy regulator:

  • UK — Information Commissioner’s Office (ico.org.uk)
  • Australia — Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (oaic.gov.au)
  • New Zealand — Office of the Privacy Commissioner (privacy.org.nz)
  • Canada — Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada (priv.gc.ca)
  • United States — Federal Trade Commission (ftc.gov) and your State Attorney General
  • South Africa — Information Regulator (inforegulator.org.za)

A few things we ask of you

Privacy is a two-way street. To help keep it working for everyone:

  • Keep your password to yourself.
  • Don’t share other people’s personal information while using our products.
  • Be kind in chats, leaderboards and any text fields. We do moderate.
  • If something feels off (a weird message, a request for info, anything) tell a trusted adult straight away.

When this changes

If we change anything important on this page, we’ll let your parent or school know. The adult Privacy Policy lists the latest version number.
